Prussian Blue Color
The first modern synthetic pigment, recorded in Berlin’s Friedrichstadt Chronicle of 1706 after dye-maker Johann Jacob Diesbach used potash tainted with Dippel’s animal oil. It handed painters a deep, cheap blue in place of ruinously expensive ultramarine, and it later became the blue of blueprints. Prussian Blue color still comes across as serious and scholarly.
